Stitch Fix!

For months I've been hearing commercials for Trunk Club (the men's version of Stitch Fix) on NPR and getting a little sad that I wasn't a dude... then I saw a family friend blogging about Stitch Fix, and I couldn't resist!  Although I like to shop occasionally, I find myself buying a lot of the same types of things, which results in a pretty boring wardrobe.  So I thought something like this would be a fun way to mix it up a bit :)

Getting started is fun too - you create an account, fill out your style profile, and tell your stylist about anything specific you want to get in your fix.  You can also link your account to Pinterest to give them more to work with in terms of your style.  I did this... but I usually never pin clothes so I frantically chose some things to add to my board!  Anyway, after all that and a few weeks later, you get a box of five items in the mail (fun), choose what you like, and send the rest back.  You pay for whatever you keep, or a $20 styling fee if you don't keep anything.  If you keep everything in the box, you get 25% off the total!  I figured $20 for a fun activity isn't so bad, even if I hated everything.  SO here goes...

Romolo Anaya Cut-Out Bracelet $28
Market & Spruce Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee $44
These were my two favorite things when I opened up my box - I love everything teal, and this t-shirt felt really nice and expensive... and at $44 for a T-SHIRT I think it lived up to that expectation!!  I liked the bracelet too, especially since I have been into gold lately and I'm lacking in the cool, simple accessory department.  Here's the try-on:
My reaction was... meh.  I still like the color of the shirt a lot, but there's really nothing special about the fit and I definitely wouldn't pay $44 for a pretty normal t-shirt.  The bracelet is cute but I think it would look better with a bunch of other similar bracelets, which I don't have!  So I think the verdict on these two items is a no.

Pixley Milagra Ribbon Strap Blouse $48
My initial reaction to this top was not spectacular.  I did ask my stylist to help me mix more prints into my wardrobe, and she is doing a great job of that.  I just don't typically get excited about this royal blue color, plus it looked like it would be too big.  So I tried it on:
I actually liked it a lot more when I put it on!  It fit and I like the neckline, plus the ribbon straps are a kind of cool unique touch.  But the neck and back were pretty deeply scooping, so I don't think I would feel comfortable wearing it to work.  The styling card showed it with a blazer type jacket, so I tried that and thought it was pretty cute.  I'm still torn on this one because it's a little pricey and not something I would usually wear, but wasn't that the whole point of this thing???

Gilli Kara Printed Maxi Skirt $58
My first reaction to this was YUCK.  My stylist got the idea for a maxi skirt from a photo I had posted on Pinterest, but that one was a nice flowy and light situation, compared to this clingy and weird nylon experience.  I hated it equally as much when I put it on... it made my butt look huge (not hard to do, but still!!) and I have no clue what I would ever wear with it.  Just not my thing.

Skies are Blue Jilla Gupier Lace Detail Tank $48
I liked this a lot when I took it out of the box - I always think lace backed things are cute on other people, and I've never bought anything like that before!  Plus, my coworkers took one look at it and said it looked like something I would already wear, which is a good thing right?  My style, but something I don't already have... I like where this is heading, ha.  Time to try on...
It fit great!  The front is nice and simple with a little collar detail, and the back is so fun!  It's a little see through but has a nice layer underneath which makes it more opaque, and I don't think it would be a problem if I wore a different colored bra.  I'm really loving this one!

So overall, I'd say my Stitch Fix was a super fun experience!  I'm definitely going to keep the lace back tank, and maybe the blue blouse if I can overcome my habits... although the idea of spending close to $100 on two shirts makes me cringe, so we'll see.

If you want to try Stitch Fix, use this link and I'll get a $25 referral credit!
Either way, tell me whether or not you think I should keep the blue tank top :)

  1. How fun to see your fix! I received that teal t in my first fix but I kept it. I loved the color and how soft it was and I really don't have a lot of t shirts right now. I love everything about that white top and am glad you are keeping it! I agree about that particular maxi, bleh. I love the blue tank top. It looks nice under the jacket for work and would be a fun weekend piece too. But also factor in that I love patterns so that for sure impacts my opinion. Do you love the fabric? Sometimes that helps me decide too. Sometimes I don't get things that I think will wrinkle too easily (I am not a super-ironer like your mom!) or if the texture doesn't feel nice to me. Stitch Fix is definitely pricey and I know people who just have a rule about only keeping one thing because of that. I try to only keep things I love and make me feel good when I am wearing them!

  2. Oh, also there is a Stitch Fix Reviews FB page that you can post your link on. They go to the sidebar unless your post is selected for the main page but you can still look at the sidebar posts. It's not affiliated with Stitch Fix but it's fun to see other people's reviews and sometimes I find things to pin that way.
