Stitch Fix #2

Okay, that was fast I know!! A bunch of my coworkers found the idea of Stitch Fix really fun, so I already got my first $25 for a referral :)  I figured, what's the harm in trying it again if I can do the whole thing for "free" ??  Well I think the harm is that this is way too fun and way too expensive... so hopefully this will be my last one for the foreseeable future!

I was pretty happy with my stylist last time with the exception of the skirt, so I didn't change anything except for adding a comment that I would be going to Hawaii shortly after receiving this Fix, so fun summery things are at the top of my list.  So here we go again!

Jill Michael Brookside Coin Necklace $38
This is cute but just a little too plain and also too shiny to be super chic.  And too expensive for something I feel just "meh" about.

Le Sample Kahlo Embroidered Racerback Tank $38
Dear John Lillie Cuffed Short $58
Right out of the box I really liked both of these items, but I thought that the shorts might be a little too big and sadly I was right.  I think they would be perfect if they were just one size smaller but now that I know I want shorts like this I can probably find them for cheaper online somewhere else... sorry Stitch Fix but a girl's gotta save!!  The top is cute, and I tried it on with another pair of pants since I won't be keeping the shorts.  I like it!  The mix of the stripes and the stitching detail is fun, and something I don't really have in the rest of my wardrobe.  Still deciding if I want to keep it or not.

Skies are Blue Sunbury Crochet Detail Top $44
I love this one!!  I was a big fan of the little white ball things right when I saw them, and when I put it on they make me look a little bit tan which is always good!  My stylist has this whole thing about adding prints into my closet pretty dialed :)  This one is a definite keep.

Collective Concepts Marci Dress $78
Okay first of all, look at that price tag!  Youch!!  This dress kills me because I love the color and the print, plus the length is nice for work and general life activities where I don't want my bum on display.  The only thing I don't really like about it is the v-neck (I'm more of a scoop neck kinda gal) and the fact that I know I could get something with a similar feel at Target for half the price...  Check out the cute straps and everything too!  Sadly I don't think I can talk myself into this one... it's gotta go back... wah.  Sad.

So there's my fix!  It was, once again, super fun and also caused lots of inner turmoil about money and decision making... always exciting :)  Let me know what you think of everything, and use my referral link below if you want to try out the service!  Except maybe not because then I'll be tempted to do this again... ha!

Stitch Fix: Update!

Exciting turn of events (ha!)... I ended up keeping everything in my fix!  I tested out the blue tank top in the real world and loved it, so I was definitely going to keep that and the white lace tank.  I was not super enthused about the teal t-shirt and the gold bracelet, but then when a coworker offered to buy the maxi skirt which was more her style, I figured what the heck!  Plus the 25% discount gives me all four items for just a little more than I would have paid for the two tops... overall, great success :)

Stitch Fix!

For months I've been hearing commercials for Trunk Club (the men's version of Stitch Fix) on NPR and getting a little sad that I wasn't a dude... then I saw a family friend blogging about Stitch Fix, and I couldn't resist!  Although I like to shop occasionally, I find myself buying a lot of the same types of things, which results in a pretty boring wardrobe.  So I thought something like this would be a fun way to mix it up a bit :)

Getting started is fun too - you create an account, fill out your style profile, and tell your stylist about anything specific you want to get in your fix.  You can also link your account to Pinterest to give them more to work with in terms of your style.  I did this... but I usually never pin clothes so I frantically chose some things to add to my board!  Anyway, after all that and a few weeks later, you get a box of five items in the mail (fun), choose what you like, and send the rest back.  You pay for whatever you keep, or a $20 styling fee if you don't keep anything.  If you keep everything in the box, you get 25% off the total!  I figured $20 for a fun activity isn't so bad, even if I hated everything.  SO here goes...

Romolo Anaya Cut-Out Bracelet $28
Market & Spruce Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee $44
These were my two favorite things when I opened up my box - I love everything teal, and this t-shirt felt really nice and expensive... and at $44 for a T-SHIRT I think it lived up to that expectation!!  I liked the bracelet too, especially since I have been into gold lately and I'm lacking in the cool, simple accessory department.  Here's the try-on:
My reaction was... meh.  I still like the color of the shirt a lot, but there's really nothing special about the fit and I definitely wouldn't pay $44 for a pretty normal t-shirt.  The bracelet is cute but I think it would look better with a bunch of other similar bracelets, which I don't have!  So I think the verdict on these two items is a no.

Pixley Milagra Ribbon Strap Blouse $48
My initial reaction to this top was not spectacular.  I did ask my stylist to help me mix more prints into my wardrobe, and she is doing a great job of that.  I just don't typically get excited about this royal blue color, plus it looked like it would be too big.  So I tried it on:
I actually liked it a lot more when I put it on!  It fit and I like the neckline, plus the ribbon straps are a kind of cool unique touch.  But the neck and back were pretty deeply scooping, so I don't think I would feel comfortable wearing it to work.  The styling card showed it with a blazer type jacket, so I tried that and thought it was pretty cute.  I'm still torn on this one because it's a little pricey and not something I would usually wear, but wasn't that the whole point of this thing???

Gilli Kara Printed Maxi Skirt $58
My first reaction to this was YUCK.  My stylist got the idea for a maxi skirt from a photo I had posted on Pinterest, but that one was a nice flowy and light situation, compared to this clingy and weird nylon experience.  I hated it equally as much when I put it on... it made my butt look huge (not hard to do, but still!!) and I have no clue what I would ever wear with it.  Just not my thing.

Skies are Blue Jilla Gupier Lace Detail Tank $48
I liked this a lot when I took it out of the box - I always think lace backed things are cute on other people, and I've never bought anything like that before!  Plus, my coworkers took one look at it and said it looked like something I would already wear, which is a good thing right?  My style, but something I don't already have... I like where this is heading, ha.  Time to try on...
It fit great!  The front is nice and simple with a little collar detail, and the back is so fun!  It's a little see through but has a nice layer underneath which makes it more opaque, and I don't think it would be a problem if I wore a different colored bra.  I'm really loving this one!

So overall, I'd say my Stitch Fix was a super fun experience!  I'm definitely going to keep the lace back tank, and maybe the blue blouse if I can overcome my habits... although the idea of spending close to $100 on two shirts makes me cringe, so we'll see.

Either way, tell me whether or not you think I should keep the blue tank top :)
